The best advice for a succesful ERP implementation

Hvis I står foran en ERP implementering, vil I sikkert gerne vide, how you can increase your chances of success. In the following sections, we'd like to share our experiences with ERP implementation. By doing this, you have a better understanding of the task and what you should and should'nt do , if you want your implementation to be a success.

If you're going to implement an ERP system, it's important to know what a sizeable and demanding task it can be, no matter the help you recieve. It still takes a lot of internal ressources to make sure that the implementation will be a success. Thus the firm and it's employees have a great responsibility for the implementation going smoothly.

The three phases in an ERP implementation

As the implementation of an ERP system can be a long and tiresome process, you can divide it into three phases.

  1. Preparation

    I forberedelses-fasen er den grundlæggende opgave at finde ud af, hvilken ERP løsning og leverandør man skal vælge.To make this choice as a company, you first and foremost need to find out what you'd like to use the ERP system for. Her kan man passende sætte nogle KPI’er og samtidig undersøge, hvordan ERP systemet skal kunne hjælpe med disse. Det kan både være økonomiske KPI’er, men kan også sagtens være KPI’er for anvendelse af interne ressourcer.Simultaneously you need to put together a solid team of people internally in the company, who can lead parts of- or the entirety of the project so it safely reaches its goal.


  2. Implementation

    Når I skal i gang med selve implementeringen af jeres valgte ERP system, migration of data becomes one of the primary tasks. To use your system properly it is very important that all your data migrates into the new system. In this phase it's important to continuously test the data, so you can make sure that the different data migrations have been done properly. Derudover er udgangspunktet for NetSuite, at der vælges out-of-the-box løsninger, som passer jeres virksomhed bedst muligt, og som specialiserer de vigtigste processer for jer. Typisk vil 80% af implementering være out-of-the-box løsninger, mens de sidste helt specifikke virksomhedsprocesser bliver special-tilpasset.

    Dette giver store fordele i forhold til at komme hurtigt i gang med NetSuite og minimerer implementeringsrisici, samtidig med at special-tilpasningerne gør at systemet forsat tilpasses jeres virksomhed. I denne fase vil I også opleve meget kontakt med jeres ERP leverandør, da der heri kan opstå flere uforudsete situationer. Derfor er det også vigtigt, at I har fået opstillet nogle gode og klare retningslinjer for kommunikation og statusmøder med jeres leverandør.


  3. Post-implementation

4 good tips for a successful implementation of an ERP system

Through our experience with implementation of ERP systems, we have at close range experienced what factors are at play when it comes to how smooth and successful an implementation will be. This is why we have gathered 4 good tips for a successful implementation.

  1. Define your goals and create a strategy beforehand

    If you don't clearly define what the ERP system will be used for, it will be difficult to choose the optimal system and define exactly how it helped you later on. You can create goals for both the harder values like financial key numbers or softer values like increased job satisfaction.


  2. Put together the worlds best project team

    For the rest of the company to use the system optimally when the implementation is finished, it is important that you from the beginning put together a good team who can make sure your ERP system is set up optimally for your company's goals.


  3. Be in continuous dialog with your ERP supplier

    Since ERP implementation can take it's sweet time it is important that you continuously stay in close contact with your supplier. Define clear lines for communication and status meetings so you effortlessly can solve potential problems.


  4. Prioritize time and ressources for training

    A lack of training in how the system works is one of the biggest reasons that ERP projects might fail. Which is why you need to prioritize time and ressources to train all employees in the system, so everyone can use it properly and utilize all its advantages.
